The Body Needs Lip Lusters

The Body Needs Lip Luster Vampress

The wonderful husband and wife team over at The Body Needs Cosmetics were nice enough to reach out to me and ask if they could send me some of their The Body Needs Lip Lusters. And I, as the lipstick junkie I am, of course, said YES PLEASE!

They did not ask me to do any reviews or say anything nice about them, nor did they pay me in any way other then gifting these to me.

But man oh man will I say some nice things about these lip lusters!

For starters, their texture is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. They are somewhere between a lipstick and lip gloss- with the pigment of paint! You all know how hard it is for me to find any lipstick that covers the pigmentation of my lips, and as you’ll see in the lip swatches below I have no problem with these covering them perfectly! They have SO many awesome colors to choose from- pinks, oranges, metallic purples and golds! And they have swatches and lip swatches right there on their site so you don’t even have to guess what the color looks like.

And the best thing about these Lip Lusters are that they are cruelty free and only $2.79 each! There are also a ton on clearance for only $.99! Shop Here!

And for me, personally, the best part is I can wear them because they have no weird chemicals in them! Woooo!

The Body Needs Lip Lusters KarmaKarma (The perfect My-Lips-But-Better color!)

See? I told you they were pigmented! I am also quite enamored with their adorable names! (Bitch, Please might be my fav name!) Karma and Wonton Berries are my favorite shades, but the fun purples are awesome too! I would recommend a lip liner with these, and because of the lip gloss like texture you will need to take the tube with you when you leave the house for touch ups.

The Body Needs also sells MAC lipstick samples in case you want to try out a color before you buy it or you just want a smaller size due to budgets, they are a great resource!

They included a couple mineral eyeshadow and blush samples, and I am in love with them as well. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future!

Did you know anti-freeze is your your makeup?

Maybe you’re like me and are wondering why something that is in anti-freeze and toilet bowl cleaner is also in your lotion? Your foundation? Your toothpaste? Your personal lubricants? Your laxatives? Your salad dressing? Your soda? Your boxed cake mix? Your margarine? Your dog’s food? Even your freaking whiskey and your e-cigs?

(No joke- Finland, Norway and Sweden all recalled Fireball whiskey from their shelves for having more propylene glycol than their maximum allowance. The same level is approved for consumption in the US. Article here)

Paula’s Choice somehow STILL gives this ingredient a GOOD rating on their site to be in cosmetics and personal care products, which is one of the many reasons I don’t love that site. What they don’t say is that more and more people are becoming allergic to it everyday, and that some people can go into anaphylatic shock just from ingesting a small dose.

PG (propylene glycol) is also toxic to pets, so you should never leave any of these products in a place where your animal could get to them. PG has a sweet taste, and can cause seizures. What’s even crazier, is that PG is commonly found IN PET FOOD.

So what is PG? And why is it so commonly used?  Propylene Glycol is widely used in emollient creams, lotions, other personal hygiene products and medicated creams. It is also used as a preservative and solvent for food flavoring agents in food processing. It is an excellent vehicle and solvent for dermatologic and non dermatologic formulations. Propylene Glycol is a viscous, colorless, virtually odorless alcohol. (Source is from the sheet my allergist gave me, which you can find here.)

So, basically, it is a really good carrier, binder, solvent, cooling agent, anti-caking agent, preservative, humectant…. It is used everywhere.

And the bastards in the industry have made it so it can be called any of these names, plus more:

1,2-Propanediol; α-Propylene glycol; Methylethyl glycol; Methylethylene glycol; Monopropylene glycol; PG 12; Sirlene; 1,2-Dihydroxypropane; 1,2-Propylene glycol; 2-Hydroxypropanol; 2,3-Propanediol; Propane-1,2-diol; Dowfrost; Propylene glycol USP; 1,2-Propylenglykol; Solar winter ban; Sentry Propylene Glycol; Isopropylene glycol; Ucar 35; Solargard P; Ilexan P; Prolugen; Trimethyl glycol; 1,2-Propandiol; Propylenglycol; (RS)-1,2-Propanediol; (.+/-.)-1,2-Propanediol; DL-1,2-Propanediol; NSC 69860; DL-Propylene glycol; propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol); propanediol; 1,2-propanediol (propylene glycol)

(You try remembering all of those names when you are standing in a CVS looking at the ingredients in a lotion.)

Today, I’d like to make a list of all the products in MY home that contain propylene glycol, not including the products I’ve already thrown in the garbage or given away. To make this easier on you, I’m going to split them up into categories. Some of these contain PG’s sister ingredient, PEG (polyethylene glycol) which is  arguably even worse than PG. Just fyi.
